What is the Alliance for Historic Wyoming’s Mission?

Working with communities statewide, the Alliance for Historic Wyoming Advocates for the preservation of Wyoming’s historic places and spaces.

What does it mean to be a Board Member?

As a nonprofit organization, the Alliance is governed by a Board of Directors, who are responsible for ensuring the nonprofit remains true to its mission, remains financially sound, and operates ethically and legally.

How long are the board member terms?

Board members typically serve a three-year term, and can be re-elected at the conclusion of their term. Officers are elected to two-year terms.

Do I have to be a professional preservationist to serve on the Alliance’s Board?

No! Preservation Professionals are encouraged to apply to our board of directors, but it is not a requirement. We appreciate a diverse range of experiences to shape the direction of our organization.

What is the time commitment?

The Board of Directors meets every other month for 2-3 hours, at least one meeting per year will be held in person. Board members are required to serve on at least one of our committees that meet monthly over Zoom. Board members should expect to spend 5-10 hours per month on the Alliance.

What is the expectation of board members?

Board members are expected actively engage in preservation issues, and participate in discussions, and by a current member of the Alliance. The board of directors is collectively responsible for governance, strategic planning, financial oversight, fundraising, setting policies, and advocating for the organization and our mission.

What committees are there?

  • Standing committees are Resource Development, Programming, and Communications. You do not have to be a board member to serve as a committee member. We also create working groups for specific projects.
